ROADS AND COUNCILS
The improved weather during the last few weeks has allowed some of the roads to the North to become passable. The wet spell during Labour Bay week-end, however, will act as a severe set-back but providing the weather from now on is fine, motor-cars can get through to the North either by way of Matakana, Wliangaripo and Mangawai, or via Ivaipara Flats*, Tauhoa, Port Albert and Wellsford, from Warkworth. Very good work has been done on the clay roads in most ridings with discs and graders. Latest reports state that the direct routes from Warkworth, via Way by, to Wellsford, Kaukapakapa to Port Albert, and Wellsford to Maungaturoto, are not yet possible for motors, but men are engaged in improving these routes and, with further dry weather, these roads will soon be fit for motor traffic. Steady progress is being made in metalling the main roads in the Rodney County, the roads in the Albert Riding being wonderfully improved. The Canterbury Automobile Association last meeting passed a “a respectful recommendation to all local bodies that they should experiment in laying bituminous surfaces, because of the dust nuisance that now prevails with the water-bound roads.” * * * The action of the Auckland Automobile Association in arranging for patrols to direct traffic over the temporary road at Mercer on Labour Bay, was greatly appreciated by the thousands of motorists who benefited.
