1928 MODELS NOW ON VIEW A BEAUTIFUL CAR A new arrival in the motor-car line in Auckland during the past week was in 1928 Chevrolet, several body styles of which are now here. “Headlight” had the opportunity of examining the new Chevrolet, as fully endorse the slogan the distributors have adopted: “The most beautiful Chevrolet in Chevrolet history.” Beauty of line and colour, in fact, are the distinguishing marks of the new car. The first thing that strikes the eye is the two-colour job—a delicate light green and a delicate light blue, set off with fine stream-lining. The colours are a delightful change after becoming used to all light cars being turned out in one dark colour. Then the radiator has been entirely remodelled, and, being made of shining airplane metal, quite attracts the eye. Another thing that must be mentioned is that the mudguards are one piece full crown, and give quite a racy touch to the car, helped probably by the disc wheels, and the powerful looking bullet-type headlamps. An improvement that will be noticed by old Chevrolet owners is the strengthening of the step boards. A glance under the bonnet reveals that substantially the engine is the same as previous models, plus a few refinements such as the standard fitting of an oil filter, and an air cleaner. The oil pump has been redesigned. As soon as one sits in the driving position a bright idea is noticed—in-

stead of the usual ignition switch on the dash, the switch is placed next to the steering column, and is made so that it locks both the ignition and the steering at the one turn. The car is thus made absolutely thief-proof. ROAD TESTS “Headlight” was delighted at the performance of this car. lie was in both the tourer and the roadster, and finds it hard to say which he prefers. The tourer body is built to hold five comfortably, and is a nice running job. The roadster “Headlight” was in rah wonderfully. It tackled any and every hill on top, and when put to Mount Eden, pulled up there on top, too. Allowing for the fact that it is only a light body and the engine had really nothing to pull besides the driver and passenger, the Mount Eden run is a remarkable achievement. The pick-up of the engine is surprisingly quick, the brakes efficient, and the springing so well carried out that the roughest roads may be attempted without the slightest inconvenience. Altogether, the new Chev. is a car in which any run may bo enjoyed. It is understood that the bodies of the tourer, sedan, coach and roadster are all built in New Zealand at the General Motors works at Petone, Wellington. The entire car is said to carry the maker’s guarantee for 12 months, which is no little consideration.
