MONTHLY MEETING AT WHANGAREI The monthly meeting of the executive of the Whangarei branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Mayor’s room at the Town Hall last week-end*. The members present were Mesdames Murdoch, president, Staples, Brake, Briggs, Foote, Hawkins, Holmes, Heather, Steadman, Donaldson and Miss Bethell. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Wilson and Jones. Accounts amounting to £34 3s 6d were passed for payment. A letter was received from Te Puke asking for particulars of the Whangarei rest room, dental clinic and Plunket rooms, as the Te Puke organisations have an idea of combining and building similar rooms. Several gifts have been received towards furnishing the Plunket rooms—a chair and baby’s basket from Mrs. McKinstry, a flower pot and plant from Mrs. Wilson and a table from Miss Davies. These and the gifts sent in for the competitions on Daffodil Day are much appreciated by the committee. It was decided to purchase a new battery for the car. Subscriptions received since the last meeting number 20. Also the following donations were received: Mrs. Wilson 7s tJd, Mr. Southern £2 2s, Mrs. Allen 2s 6d and Mrs. Schucksmith 2s. The nurse’s report for the month of September is as follows: New cases 15, old cases 400. Analysis of new cases: Mothers and babies, 7 each (out-stations 8 each); visits to homes, new cases 3, old 119 (out-stations 3 and 66); visits to office, adults 174, babies 131,' older children 33 (outstations 36, 31 and 7); total, 412. The new rooms were officially opened by Mr. W. Jones, M.P., on September 10, and are a great joy to everyone concerned. The next meeting in November will bo a general one and the last for the year.
