FREEZING PROPERTY LESS VALUABLE
RIGHT OF VETO QUESTIONED Press Association. DUNEDIN, To-day. Strong criticism of the legislation granting the Meat Board the power to veto sales cf freezing works was made at the annual meeting of the South Otago Freezing Co. Mr. James Begg said that the Meat Board’s power to prevent sales of freezing works had made such works worth less as securities. Presumably, he said, the Meat Board was not exceeding the power granted it by the Government, so the responsibility must rest upon the latter- The Reform Government apparently approved of this confiscatory legislation, and its example might be greedily followed by more radical successors. They could easily imagine a board set up with power to veto all transfers of land or property by its action making property valueless. A useful precedent had been given by the Reform Government.
