NEW PAPAKURA CLUB CHURCH ORGANISATION A meeting to consider the formation of a tennis club in connection with the Church of England, Papakura, was held on Monday evening. The vicar, the Rev. W. C. Wood, presided. It was decided, after some discussion, to establish a club to be named “The Christ Church Tennis Club,” and the following officials were appointed: Patron, Mr. Percy Holt: president. Rev. W. c. Wood; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. J. Willis. J. Batty, J. S. A. Slack, H Muir H. Mogford, U. Lound, C. S. Beechey, W. A. Pavitt, G. E. Margetts, PI. A. J. Busing, and Curtis; treasurer, Mr. H. Muir. The committee was fixed at 12 members, six men and six women, but selection was deferred until a later meeting. The courts are to be laid dow n at the back of the parish hail and the work is to start at once. OPOTIKI CLUB The annual meeting of the Opotiki Lawn Tennis Club was held last ni _ ht when the following officers were ’ elected: President, Mr. A. Hilford ’ secretary. Mr. O’Meara; treasurer Mr. L. Main: general committee Miss O. Burt and Messrs. Bloor, Hawkins, Reeves. Burrett Semple, Yeoman: ladies’ committee. Misses W. pay ne , H. Larmer, V. Short. O* Burt, and L. Gordon. , The president’s report stated tnat the standard of play was not up to the club’s average. Three matches were nlaved with Taneatua. and two with Waimana, all resulting in losses to the club. The courts had been repaired, and were now in good order for the Sew season. The bank overdraft had been reduced from £44 to £6. Assets amounted to £414 10s, and liabilities were only £6 8s sd. Mr. R. A. Burns was appointed club captain.
