LATE MR. F. DUDER
Formerly well known in Auckland, Mr. Frederick Duder died last week in Melbourne at the age of 74. He was the fifth son of the late Mr. Thomas Duder, the first permanent settler at Devonport and for many years keeper of the Mount Victoria flagstaff. Mr. Duder served his apprenticeship to the house-building trade, and attracted by the building boom in Dunedin, he went there. During his seven years there he was well known in football and rowing circles. Returning to Devonport in the middle “eighties,” he joined the gold rush to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Prospects were disappointing, and he worked his way to Melbourne, where he engaged in the building trade.
For about 15 years Mr. Duder, who was always keenly interested in horseracing, successfully conducted a stable in Melbourne. He spent all his later life in Australia. Mr. Duder is survived by two sons, his wife having predeceased him two years ago. Captain Albert Duder, of Devonport. formerly Auckland Harbourmaster, is a brother.
