NGATEA CONCERT
BENEFIT FOR FOOTBALLER
A very fine concert was presented in the Ngatea hall on Monday evening by the members of the Turua Concert Party, as a benefit to Mr. Leo Cotter, a Ngatea footballer, at present in the Auckland Hospital with a broken leg, an injury received while playt*c in an inter-union match. The benefit was arranged by the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union, and there w«?s a lars* attendance.
The concert followed the lines of the previous entertainments given by the amateurs at Turua, Waitakaruru. and Kerepeehi, but there were several new vocalists, and many new items. The audience showed its appreciation of every item by unstinted applause. Commencing with a rousing opening chorus, in which the .10 ladies and «» gentlemen of the party sang "How Do You Do?” to everyone in general, and to some few in particular, there followed in quick succession amu»nt items by Messrs. H. Owens and G. Muller, and Mrs. A. Walker and J. H. Johnston, four players whose injured tone of voice, serio-comic and absurd disguises provoked joits of laughter-whenever they appeared. Associated with them in other items were Messrs. A. Walker and A. Hill- Xo small part in the success of the evening’s entertainment was due to the Rev. W. W. Averill. whose fine voice and versatile manner earned Win numerous recalls. Mrs. W. Clark and Messrs. G. Muller and A. Walker contributed songs, which were well r«’ ceived. Mrs. J. Mules played accompaniments. The whole of the second part w?. occupied with the presentation of * very amusing farce, -‘Freezing Mother-in-law,” by Mrs- Walker, Mifi* Schmidt, and Messrs. H. Owens, bMuller, and W. W. Averill. Thanks were expressed to the co. * cert party by Mr. C. S. Foster, on behalf of the Rugby Union, and t»-« was then cleared for dancing.
