SPOILING THE BEACHES
The meeting of the Devon port Borough Councii last evening was attended by Aldridge, Browr., Hislop Llhsdon, H. A. Campbell. Massey, Enright, Lyon and W. S. The solicitor for the Watson Estate intimated that a sixth interim payment of £125, making a total of £1,250, was now available under the will c f the late Mr. Alex. Watson. The money was bequeathed far the purpose of finishing or improving the sea wall on Kings Parade and the engineer is to prepare a plan for work, so that employment may be offered.
The special constable reported that “from far and near” people came to take sand from the Cheltenham Beach and the by-law is to be enforced. The inspector of war graves is to be informed that the council is clearin? graves at O’Neill’s Point Cemetery of weeds.
A legal difficulty, requiring special enabling legislation, has arisen in connection with the transfer of the abandoned Anglican cemetery on Albert Road to the borough council. It will not be possible to get the matter finalised this season.
The treasurer’s report showed that £6,1 SO had been spent on public works for the half-year. The receipts for the same period were £13,330 on general account.
