TAKAPUNA BOROUGH
DRAINAGE TENDERS ACCEPTED
At the ordinary meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council last evening, tenders for the Tlauraki sub-drain, running from Lake Road to Clifton Road, were received. The lowest tender, that of Messrs. H. Valintine and Son, Grey Lynn, for £319 10s, was accepted. The engineer’s estimate was for £477. The legal and finance committee is to report on the present subdivisional by-law which allows subdivisions to be made when the sections are served by a right-of-way only. The engineer reported that the proposed new storm-water drain at the corner of Harrison Avenue and Westwell Avenue would cost £2BO. The council will carry out the work early next financial year. The Takapuna Ratepayers' and Residents' Association asked that white lines should be drawn at Hauraki Road and Hall's Corner, along the centre of the road, and that the word “slow” should be painted in large letters at the end of the lines. These suggestions, along with a proposal that a lighted “silent policeman” should be placed at the Strand, are to be considered by the works committee. A four-inch water-main is to be laid m Byron Avenue as far as Burns Avenue in place of the two-inch mains authorised.
The borough inspector is to report on the proposal to erect an abattoir in the district.
The Waitemata County Council intimated that it was prepared to contribute £350 toward the cost of concreting Sherri S's Hill.
