NEWMARKET FINANCES

TREASURER’S STATEMENT

The financial operations of Newmarket during the half-year ending September 30 were shown in a report submitted to the Borough Council last evening by the treasurer. Mr. H. Wilson.

Revenue received to September 30 amounted to £5,530, a percentage of 22.1 of the total estimate for the year, £34.579. The payments to September 30, amounted to £ 13,333. a percentage of 55.4 of the total estimate for the year of £24,053. “It will be noted,” continued the report, “that the amount of revenue received during the first half-year represents only 22.1 per cent, of the total estimate for the year, and the payments are not less than 55.4 per cent, of the year’s estimated total This is of very little consequence, as the chief concern of the council at this stage of the operations is the manner in which the individual items, both revenue and expenditure, compare with the figures appearing in the estimate drawn up at the commencement of the year.

“The position disclosed is not a very werious one, and with careful administration during the next six months, the position will probably be better than is anticipated at the close of the year.”
