ROTORUA’S NEW THEATRE
A HANDSOME BUILDING
BIG PRODUCTIONS POSSIBLE
THE attractions of Rotorua will receive further addition next year when the handsome new theatre, for which plans have now been prepared, is completed. A central site in Tutanekai Street has already been secured by the Rotorua. New Picture and General Theatre Coy., on which it is planned to erect a commodious and up-to-date building capable of accommodating 700 or 800 people. Shop fronts are provided and the exterior will be finished off on modern and artistic lines. The desirability of attracting firstclass companies to the Thermal Wonderland. has not been lost sight of, and with this end in view special care is being taken to ensure stage arrangements being adequate for all Dominion requirements. Lighting arrangements and interior comfort generally are also to be prominent features of the new building, a central heating system ensuring the theatre being kept warm and cosy during the winter months. . Of the 7,900 shares originally put on the market, 7,285 have been taken up in Rotorua, and the share register contains over SO names. The directors of the company arc as follow: —Messrs. A. Brown, J. D. Davys, E. A. Jones. A. J. McDermott, T. McDowell, R. B. Nesbitt, D. W. Steele, L. Woolliams and W. H. Wackrow.
