TRAFALGAR DAY

122ND OBSERVANCE

TO-MORROW'S ARRANGEMENTS

To-morrow is Trafalgar Day, the 122nd anniversary of the historic battle in which Lord Nelson defeated the combined Spanish and French fleets in Trafalgar Bay.

A British naval film will be shown for the first time at the Regent Theatre to-morrow, and Auckland school children will have an opportunity of not only seeing the picture, but also of commemorating the memory of England’s greatest sailor. At the two afternoon sessions tomorrow, and at the morning session on Saturday, school children will be admitted to the theatre at a reduced charge. They will bo addressed by Lieut.-Colonel E. IT. Xortlicroft, Mr. F. L- G. West, Mr.. T. M. Holmden, and Mr. L. P. Leary- Addresses will also be given at the evening session

Commander J. R. Middleton, D. 5.0.. secretary of the Auckland Navy League, stated this morning that speakers w'ould not be sent round to the schools, as had been done last year, as it was considered the addresses at the theatre would be sufficient. The Auckland Education Board has been requested by the Minister of Education to ask teachers to observe Trafalgar Day in some suitable manner. In compliance with the suggestion. the board has asked teachers to observe the occasion by the saluting of the flag, the delivery of addresses, or in any other suitable way. Letters have been sent to business houses in Auckland by Commander Middleton asking them to fly a flag as a tribute to the memory of Lord Nelson and the thousands of British sailors who have given their lives in the service of their country.
