SUBURBAN TENNIS

FIXTURES FOR SEASON

A meeting was held in the Papatoetoe Tennis Club’s pavilion on Monday night, for the purpose of discussing the inter-club competitions for the ensuing year. Delegates were present by invitation from the Manukau Lawn Tennis Sub-Association clubs. Mr. Hickson, president of the Auckland Association, was in the chair, supported by Mr. Swan, secretary of the Auckland Association, and Mr. Tonks. Delegates were also present from the - following clubs:—Papakura, Mangere Central, Mangere East, Papatoetoe, Brookby, East Tamaki and Clevedon. An apology was received from the Manurewa Club, which expressed satisfaction with last year’s arrangements, and notified intention of competing this season.

The previous decision of the Manukau Association to the effect that its clubs were too far away to participate in the Auckland Association matches was rescinded, and travelling arrangements made which will allow competition. All the clubs represented expressed the intention of entering two teams in the inter-suburban competition, and some are competing in the Auckland tourneys. In the suburban inter-club fixtures teams will consist of A grade, four men and four ladies, who will play two men's singles, two ladies’ singles, two men’s doubles, two ladies’ doubles, and two combines, best of three sets, third set vantage. In the B grade teams will consist of six ladies and six men, and the following games will be played:—Two men’s singles, two ladies’ singles, three men’s doubles, three ladies’ doubles, and four combines: best out of 21 games. The dates fixed for the inter-club matches are as follow: —November 19. December 3 and 17, February 11 and 25, March 10 and 24. The starting time for the matches will be 1 p.m. Closing dates for receiving of entries will be:—Suburban competition, October 31: Auckland Association interclub matches, October 25.
