HER EXCELLENCY AT BIRD SANCTUARY
KAPITI ISLAND VISITED
DELIGHTED WITH TRIP Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. Lady Alice Fergusson and party ■visited Kapiti Island scenic reserve and bird sanctuary last week-end. They made excursions to different parts, including a tramp to the trig station, 1,725 ft up on the highest part of the island. In the vicinity of the caretaker's cottage birds are quite tame and came up for food and sweetened water. Their chorus begins with the dawn and only ceases with nightfall. The bush is looking very beautiful just now. The recovery of the undergrowth since the disappearance of goats is very remarkable.
Her Excellency was delighted with the visit and made a number of pretty sketches and paintings of bush scenery.
