New Zealand Cricket Control
AUCKLAND’S POSITION OUTLINE OF POLICY
Various matters which will come up for consideration at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council next month were discussed by the Management Committee of the Auckland Cricket Association last night. Prior to discussion in open meeting, the committee conferred with Air. Dan Reese, chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council, who is at present on a visit to Auckland. The discussion was taken in committee. At the request of Air. Snedden, who will represent the Auckland Cricket Association at the annual meeting of the council next month, the committee gave a short outline of its general policy on some of the questions which will be discussed. The committee expressed itself as unanimously in favour of the number of professionals in Flunket Shield matches being limited to one for each association. On the question of selectors for New Zealand teams, two schemes received most support, the first being for three selectors representative of the major associations, one of the four associations to remain unrepresented in rotation; and the other providing for one selector from each of the four major associations, the chairman to have a casting vote. It was left in Air. Sneddon s hands to support whichever scheme appeared most suitable at the annual meeting. In connection with test matches, the opinion was expressed by Air. Sneddon that Auckland should have a test every alternate tour. It was emphasised that this was largely a matter of gate receipts, and that if Auckland secured good “gates” it would stand a good chance of getting a test every tour. Air. Snedden was deputed to inquire at the annual meeting whether it was intended to use the old balls or the new standard balls in Plunket Shield matches this season.
