TT R. FRANK 11. I, EON A RD, senior member of the firm, of Econard and Son, Ltd., is a descendant. oS a family of pioneers.
Born in Auckland and educated ai the Grammar School . he succumbed to the ivanderlust early in life and spent several years in Queensland and Neio South T Vales, mostly connected with the timber industry.
The year 1903 found him back in Auckland established as an importer. As a diversion from city interests he made dairying and stock-raising a hobby , and. in 1914 he disposed of his business to concentrate on dairying and stockraising. At the beginning of this decade, however, he was back again in the city, where, in partnership with his eldest son, Mr. IP. A. E. Leonard, he soon established the firm on a solid footing in the butter trade, both locally and abroad. To-day the firm has a. large connection in England, America and. the East. Mr. Leonard has just returned from a tour abroad, where he spent six months cementing business relationships and investigating trade possibilities.
One of the founders of the Eriesian Association of New Zealand, Mr. Leonard was also largely responsible for the formation of the East Tamaki, Hinuera arid Rodney Dairy Companies. In his early days lie. was one of Auckland's most prominent yachtsmen, and an enthusiast with rod and gun. To-day he finds bowling less strenuous.
