THE CRICKET SEASON

MAY START NEXT WEEK A.C.A. MEETING At last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Cricket Association there were present:—Messrs. E. E. Nalder (chairman), D. Miller, D. V. Moore, R. Dow, W. J. Smeeton, E. C. Beale, L. H. Saunders. H. Horspool. R. B. Lusk, Carlton Hay, N. C. Snedden, J. H. Watts, W. J. Bennett, G. Jackson and N. E. H. Hockin, hon. secretary. In connection with daylight saving and the likelihood of matches being

played till 7 p.m. during the coming season, Mr. Bennett, who had Deen appointed at the previous meeting to inquire into the position as it would affect the secondary schools, stated that it would be an insuperable barrier at King’s. The other schools which did not have boarding establishments would not be affected to the same extent.

It was also stated that some difficulty might be foreseen in the cases of Birkdale and Swanson, but the committee would be more fully informed of the position at the next meeting. It was decided that every effort be made to start senior and second-grade matches on October 29. It was reported that the North Shore ground was ready; and Messrs. Hay and Snedden were deputed to report on the condition of Eden Park and Victoria Park respectively.

A letter was received from the Wellington Association suggesting that the Plunket Shield match between Wellington and Auckland should start at 11 a.m on Saturday. January 28. It was decided to reply stating that the usual custom was to start on a Friday, and to ask if there was any good reason for departing from this custom. An afternoon tea adjournment, to be mandatory in all matches, was fixed for the season as follows:—Senior grade and second grade. 4.15 to 4.30; other grades, 4.30 to 4.45. Mr. Beale was given permission to arrange a match for next Wednesday between a earn selected by him and the King's College Ist XI. It was mentioned that both Bowley and Bangridge, the association’s professionals, would be back in time to take part in the match.
