PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL

ROAD MAINTENANCE The Public Works Department wrote to the Piako County Council on Monday in regard to the Waitoa-Taupriri highway, and asked for a careful estimate of the cost of maintaining the road with Otorohanga shingle, so that a fair comparison could be made witn the maintenance of a sealed-surface road, assuming that £9O a mile was reasonable. The engineer, Mr. W. J. Gibbs, said that the idea was his. However, the council unanimously agreed to the proposal and nstructed the engineer to prepare the necessary plans. The engineer was instructed to expend £25 on the Motumaoho-to county boundary road. The council agreed to ask the Public Works Department for a substantial grant for the Tahuna main road. Mr. H. C. Williams, Waitete Koad, inquired if the council intended putting the Waitete road in permanent repair. It was left to the chairman and engineer to attend to the question. On the motion of Cr. McLean, it was agreed to proceed with the expenditure of £293 on Walton North Road, and £145 on Hutchinson Road.
