p r h. L. Gould went South by the Dimited lust evening. Mr A. E. Hertford, chief inspector of lisheriea, is staying: at the Star Hotel. professor Arnold Wall, of Canterbury College, has sailed for England. The Hon. J G. Craigie, M.L.C., of Tlmaru, and Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., returned by train to Wellington last evening. Mr. Beaumont Smith and Mr. J. C. Farrell left for Wellington by the express last evening. They will return on Thursday. Mr. H. J. Wynne, signalling and electrical engineer. New Zealand Railways, arrived from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Dr. W. H. Prrkes, Dr. W. Irving and Dr. W. Newlands, whose terms as members of the New Zealand Medical Council expired recently have been reappointed, Mr. Cyril Towsey, who has been touring New Zealand as Madame Francis Alda's accompanist, returned to Auckland this morning. Mr. J. McLeod was granted leave of absence by the Waitemata Power Board this morning. He is suffering yn illness which will prevent his attendance for a few days. Lieutenant R. G. K. Knowling, R.N., of H.M.S. Laburnum. will return to England shortly, sailing from Auckland by the Ulimarou on November 4. He will be succeeded by Sub-Lieutenant H. G. D. De Chair, son of Sir Dudley De Chair, Governor of New South Wales. Lieutenant Knowling has served in the Laburnum in New Zealand waters since early in 1925. HOTEL REGISTER Grand. —Mr. F. H.
