CROSS-COUNTRY RACING ROTORUA CHAMPIONSHIPS (From Our Own Correspondent) ROTORUA, To-day. Rotorua High School cross-country competitions were held this week under perfect conditions over country that was placed at the disposal of the school by Messrs. Jolly and Hunt, Malfroy Road. There was a large gathering of spectators, who were treated to an interesting afternoon’s sport. There were 92 competitors out of a roll number of 110 boys. The senior event, distance about 32 miles, resulted: —Dawson (ss), 1; Williamson t2ss), 2; Devin (20s). 3; Raethel (355), 4; Martin (.ss), 5. The winner also gained Dr. Bertram’s Cup for the fastest time. He covered the distance in 24m 4s. Junior event, under 14 years, distance 2 miles, 52 starters, result: Hall (30s), 1; Ryder (scr.). 2; B. Firth (40s), 3; Nelson (scr.'). 4; Hinton (scr.), 5. Time, 14m 4s. The fastest time, gained by Ryder, was 14m 20s. The points gained by the first three placed competitors from scratch in each event, will count toward the school championship, which will be completed at the school sports to be held shortly. The points gained in the senior championship were:—B. Randerson 5, Duncan 3. In the junior championship, under 16 years, Dawson Seundo, 5; Martin, 3; Matthews, 1; and in the under 14 years’ championship, Ryder, 5; Nelson, 3; and Beale, 1.
