BRIGHTER POSITION
NEW ZEALAND’S TRADE EXCESS OF EXPORTS Dominion returns of New Zealand’s overseas trade for the nine months ended September, 1927, show a substantial improvement compared with the position a year ago. Imports show a contraction to the extent of £3,720,329, and exports for the period increased by £569,768. Details of the value of exports and imports for the nine months ended September 30 during the past five years are as follow: Nine
The exports in September were valued at £2,133,992, as against £2,400,732 last year. Imports were £4,578,666, as against £5,135,319. Figures for the first three months of the 1926-27 season, July 1 to September 30, show an excess of imports. This, of course, is accounted for by the fact that most of the country’s primary produce has been sent out by that time, and the new season’s produce is just coming in. Also those three months are generally marked by heavy importations of seasonal goods. The figures for the period are:—
