MATAMATA COUNTY
MAMAKU ROAD GRANT The Matamata County Council decided yesterday to offer the Main Highways Board the sum of £6O as its contribution toward the upkeep of the Maraaku Bus i road. This amount is •lightly more than the total rates collected on land bordering th€s road. The Putaruru Saleyards Company, Ltd., wrote stating that representations had been made to the department to open up a stock route from Maniaku to Putaruru via Atiamuri and Selwyn. This would provide a much easier grade, and the department had replied that a subsidy was available, provided survey and legislation were carried out. In reply the council decided to secure a report from the engineer, who was instructed to inspect the proposed route in company with the riding member and a representative of the Putaruru Town Board. The Crown solicitors advisied that the shares of purchase money for Maungatautari Reserve from the Government and Cambridge Borough Council were to hand, and the question would soon be completed. It was decided to apply to the Government for the council to be made the controlling authority in regard to the Maungatautari mountain reserve.
