TAUMARUNUI COUNCIL
BURNING OF BUSH Mr. G. A. Stanton presided over the monthly meeting of the Taumarunui County Council. S. Harker, Ongarue, sought permission to burn bush on the road line near the Purakau Stream. The council! resolved to adhere to a former decision not to grant permission on account of the danger of fire spreading to adjacent milling timber. It was decided to decline a request made by P. T. Burgess, Rafa, Ongarue, for a bridge near his property, owing to there being no money available for the work. Hire fees for the county tractor were fixed as follow:—For grading, £4 10s a day; for scarifying metalled roads, £5 a day; for idle time, £2 a day; these figures to include the driver’s wages. It was resolved to negotiate with natives at Ongarue for the purchase of a section for use as a depot for county plant and property. In reply to a letter from James Hill, Owhango, it was decided to state that no help could be given in the formation of the Uepango Road to Te Koura owing to the Public Works grants for the year having been already allocated.
