THAMES WHARFAGE CHARGES ON HORSES REDUCTION AGREED TO
The secretary of the Thames Trotting Club recently interviewed Mr. J. M. Fox, secretary to the Thames Harbour Board, relative to the complaint made by owners and trainers about the excessive charges on horses and sulkies conveyed to the Thames fixture. The board met on Tuesday last, when the question was under consideration, and the secretary of the Trotting Club has been informed that the board decided to reduce the wharfage on horses from 3s to 2s per head, and on racing sulkies from 3s to Is each, the reduced charges to become operative from March, 1928. which will bo in time for the next fixture on March 24. The harbour improvement rate charge. Is in each instance, is to remain the same, so that the total of the board’s charges for the return journey will be reduced from 8s to 6s for horses and from Ss to 4s for sulkies. OWNERS TO RECIPROCATE It is to be hoped that the reductions will be an inducement to owners and trainers to continue arranging for the conveyance of their horses and gear by the steamer when attending the club’s fixture. Both the club and the Harbour Boaxd are to be commended ihr taking prompt action in a question that was of vital importance to those who keep the sport going by supplying the material to create keen competition and spectacular racing.
