CLEVEDON CROQUET CLUB
• SUCCESSFUL OPENING The Clevedon Croquet Club held the official opening of the lawns on Wednesday afternoon, when the grounds presented a very gay and animated scene. Visitors were present from all tho surrounding clubs, and a very enjoyable afternoon’s play eventuated. Mrs. Bell, president of the Clevedon Club, extended a hearty welcome to all tie visitors and members, and after throwing tho first ball, declared the lawns open for the 1927-8 season. The afternoon was l devoted to progressive croquet, and after some very interesting and exciting games the following were declared winners: A Grade, Mrs. Leighton, Papakura Club, 1; Mrs. James, Papakura Club, 2; consolation, Mrs. Jarvey, Papakura Club. B Grade, Mrs. Brown, Manurewa Club, 1; Mrs. Mclntee, Papakura Club, 2; Mrs. Whitton, Manurewa Club, consolation. At the conclusion of the presentation of prizes, Mrs. Peglar, president of the Manurewa Club, and Miss Cooper, president of the Papakura Club, returned thanks for the hospitality of the home club/ and the very pleasant day’s outing. After Mrs. Bell had suitably responded on behalf of the home club, t le visitors called for three cheers, and the call was enthusiastically answered.
