REQUESTS TO CITY GET SHORT SHRIFT
REMUERA TRAMS AND FARES THE representations made by. the Remuera deputation which waited on the City Council at its last meeting, received short erift. The deputation suggested that as the extension of trams from, the present terminus to the city boundary had previously been approved, the work should be carried out without further reference to the city ratepayers; also that the council should reconsider the new tram fares, and should seriously consider the introduction of universal tickets. The suggestions were referred to tho Tramways Committee, which decided that the first suggestion was impracticable,. and could be only dea.lt with by further reference to the ratepayers —a step which was under consideration. The committee stated that the council’s policy regarding tram fares would be reviewed again in six months’ time. The request for development of Waiatarua Park fared a little better. The Parks Committee reported that before any development could be undertaken the area surrounding the lake must be allowed to consolidate by lowering the lake two feet. The Mayor explained that the Waiatarua Drainage Board was prepared to sink the lake level. It was decided to ask the board to lower the level more than two feet if possible.
