Distress in Hamilton. —The Mayor of Hamilton, Mr. J. TL Fow, has made a further appeal for help for those in distress in the town. Money and clothing are urgentljr needed. Matamata Hospital. —The Waikato Hospital Board has accepted the tender of Mr. O. E. N. Willoughby, of £BSO, for additions to Matamata Hospital. Maori’s Throat Cut.—A Maori from the Kawhia. district was admitted to the Waikato Hospital at 5 a,in. to-day suffering from a deep wound in the throat. School Concert. —Junior High School pupils at Northcote gave an enjoyable concert in the Onewa Picturedrome. The choirs of girls and boys who won the championships at the Auckland Competitions and many others contributed to the programme. Wedding Party Victims. —-A message from Hamilton states that the condition of the two elderly members of the wedding party injured by the bursting into flames of a motor-car near Te Kauwhata on Wednesday, is still serious. Great Motor Show. —There was a big attendance when the 21st motor show opened at Olympia. Nine countries are represented in the exhibition, and 615 models are on view, which are officially computed to be worth £1,000.000. They range in price from £135 to more than £3,ooo.—British Official Wireless. Lorry Driver’s Injury. —ln a claim for £SO compensation, made in the Arbitration Court to-day by C. H. Weller, lorry-driver, of Te Kuiti, against George Oliver, carrier, of Te Kuiti, for injury to his knee while loading timber, judgment was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed. Motor-Cycle Accident. —While motorcycling toward Pokeno on Saturday last, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Wylde, of Ngatea, were involved in an accident through tl*e breaking of an Mr. Wylde had his collar-bone broken and Mrs. Wylde received numerous bruises and scratches. Small House Burned. —A five-roomed residence, containing furniture and a piano, was destroyed by fire at Kaitawa last evening. The occupants had left home a short time before for an entertainment in Pahiatua. A defective chimney is believed to ljave been the cause. NEWS BHEV Married Teacher Engaged. The Waikato Hospital Board has protested against the appointment of a married woman teacher in the children’s ward of the hospital. It was pointed out that there were hundreds of single teachers qualified for employment without engaging a woman whose husband was :in a good position. Exterminating Shags. Several council members of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society are to spend the Labour Day week-end shooting shags. At a council meeting last evening an invitation was received from the Otorohanga branch for a party to endeavour to clean out a rookery in that district. The invitation was accepted, and the possibility of making the trip in a SUN service car was discussed.
