Mayoral Chain. —A mayoral chain, comprising 20 links and a pendant has been ordered by the Hamilton Borough Council at a cost of £ 50.
Paeroa Streets. —The Paeroa Borough Council is making extensive improvements to the streets of the town. Bitumen is being applied by the latest machinery.
Mail Theft Charges. —A further remand haa been granted in the case of Harold W. M. Taylor, charged at Hamilton with the theft of a mail bag. The police have 20 witnesses.
Wrong Number Plate.—John Irwin King, an employee of Pomeroy and Co., Hamilton, was yesterday fined £ 2 for driving a motor chassis on a Sunday with the number plate of another car attached.
Speeding at Rotorua. —The Ngongotaha branch of the Farmers’ Union has complained to the Rotorua, County Council of speeding by motorists on the county roads and steps are to be taken to check offender's.
Charged with Attempted Suicide. —A young man named Basil Hobson who. apparently, tried to take his life at Morrinsville on October 10 by .swallowing poison, was before the Court at Hamilton yesterday, and remanded for further consideration of his case.
Modern Maori Education. —Mr. P. i? my the. senior assistant at St. Stephen’s College, will deal with modern aspects of Maori education in a lecture at the college schoolroom to-night. Mr. Smy the is also secretary of the Te Akarana Maori Association.
Rev. Father P. Lynch Dead.—Private advice received at Dunedin to-dav announces the death at Sydney of the Rev. Fatter Patrick Lynch, aged 69. administrator of St. Joseph’s Cathedral at Dunedin, who later conducted missions in Ireland, Australia and the Philippines.
Fined for Shooting Game. —At the Hokitika Magistrate’s Court to-day. on charges of shooting native game without a licence, three South Westland youths were fined £5 each with costs. Another resident was fined £2 on a similar charge, and another for having possession of native game, 10s.
Discharge from Bankruptcy. —An application for discharge from bankruptcy was granted Reginald D’Arcy Mens, cabinetmaker, of Auckland (Mr. M. H. Hampaon). by Mr. Justice Stringer, in the Supreme Court this morning.
Fatal Collision.—James Wilson, ag'-l 19, the motor-cyclist who was Injured in a collision with a motor-car at Invercargill on Sunday afternoon, died in a, private hospital to-day without regaining consciousness.—Press Association.
Building in Hamilton. Twenty building permits of an aggregate value of £8,571 were issued at Hamilton during the month, eight being for new buildings and 12 for alterations and additions. The value of new buildings for which permits were issued was £7,538, of which £5,700 was for private dwellings.
Stt-:k Buyer Acquitted. —ln the Hamilton Court yesterday Mr. Wyvern Wilson. S.M., dismissed a charge against David Williamson, of not accounting for £92 received from the Wail ato and Thames Valley By-Pro-duct Co. Mr. Wilson held there was no criminality in the transaction and dismissed the Information.
