WELLINGTON’S CONTROL OF AMATEUR ATHLETICS

MORE ENTRIES WANTED WANGANUI, Tuesday. “From v an athletic point of view, Wellington controls too much territory,” said Mr. H. Hugo, delegate to the New Zealand Council, at the annual meeting of the Wanganui-Tara-naki Centre last evening. Mr. Hugo was of the opinion that the more centres there were in competition the better it would be for athletics generally. The time was not far ahead when the territory controlled by the Wellington Centre would be reduced still more. Until two years ago more than 50 per cent, of the points gained by Wellington 'were scored by athletes from other provincial districts, such as Wairara.pa, which could well be centres themselves.
