S.M. EXONERATES TAXI-DRIVER

SYMONDS STREET FATALITY Jack Kynaston Hale, a taxi-driver, whose car struck and killed a woman leaving a tramcar at the junction of Wellesley and Symonds Streets, was exonerated from blame at the Police Court yesterday by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M. Hale had been charged with negligent driving, and the magistrate reserved his decision. In summarising the evidence, Mr. Cutten said that defendant had been driving at a reasonable speed. The woman had been walking with her head down, and Hale’s explanation of the accident was a reasonable one. He held that the evidence was not sufficient to support a conviction.
