AUCKLAND HINDUS TO PLAY SOCCER
EMULATING THE CHINESE AfOT to be outdone by John Chinaman, the Hindus of Auckland are eaeger ito learn the Soccer code. There is a possibility of a clash between the Auckland representatives of these two Eastern nationalities before the end o*F the present season. The manager of the Chinese team, which returned- from the South yesterday morning, after vanquishing the Wellington Chinese, four goals to one, suggested that the committee should stagre a match between the Chinese and the Hindus on Saturday week. Both sides were eagrer for battle, and he would take on the coaching of the Hindu team. Mr. A. Merizies, chairman of the committee, pointed out, however, that although the A.F.A. knew the Chinese played good football, they dicl not know anything of the game as the dark men played it. Under the circumstances they could not grant the request, and would pit the yellow men against a fourth grade representative team at Blandford Park on Saturday week. It. was suggested later in the meeting that perhaps the other game could be arranged on Labour Day, and the grounds committee is to report at next week’s meeting.
