PIGEON FLYING
MANUNUI HOMING CLUB The first interval race of the old bird series was conducted by the Manunui Homing Pigeon Club on the 9th inst., the flight being from Levin. The birds were liberated by Mr. Harvey, and had to contend with dull weather conditions. Results: — D. Andrew’s Sonnie A, 1,063, 1; J. Whittaker’s Queen Abbey, 1,046.2, 2; R. Patterson’s Royal Dispatch, 1,002.6, 3; J. Lang, well’s Star Bingen, 984.8, 4; G. Wilson’s Woollard, 889.1 5. The next race will take place from Auckland, an interval event, for Mr. P. Black's trophy. Reports from Wellington indicate that the conclusion of the race from Tau niarunui, conducted by the Wellington Homing Pigeon Society, did not prove brilliant., as the brids were forced to fly low owing to a fairly heavy southerly breeze, and Inaded at long intervals. Sevreal were marked with shot, and a large number were missing. The society intends to take severe measures against anyone discovered injuring or destroying homing pigeons.
