PIONEER MEN AND WOMEN

A T the Old Colonists’ Reunion at the Town Hall yesterday, the cheque presented, according to custom, to the oldest descendant of the first settlers who arrived at Onehunga in the ship Brilliant in 1841, was handed to Mr. John Bain. The Mayor, Mr. G. Bailiion, who presided, referred to the fact that three generations were represented in the hall, and Archbishop Averill, who gave an inspiring address, said it was on the character of the pioneer men and women that the foundations of the Empire had been built.
