MURDER CLUIC.—In connection with the murder of Mrs Downes at Ashfleld. New South Wales, the police are looking for a man who, within two hours of the crime, is said to have visited several pawnshops, where he pawned clothes alleged to have belonged to the victim.—A. and N.Z. EXPERT ADVISER.—A veterinary surgeon, Dr. Dunlop Young, expects tc leave England for Australia in February to advise the Commonwealth authorities. INDIA’S WAR DEAD.—A memorial to the Indian soldiers who fell in France and Flanders fields has been uiveiled at Neuve Chapelle by the Earl of Birkenhead, Secretary' of State for India. “Their bodies were often broken by the elements,’* said Lord Birkenhead, “but their souls were never conquered.”—British Official Wireless. PEACE OF THE WORLD. —Speakir. g of the League of Nations, Sir Austen Chamberlain. Secretary* of S:r.te for Foreign Affairs, said in an irterview that patience and goodwill were necessary. The eyes of the world were more and more being drawn toward Geneva, and the League was more and more being recognised as a court of appeal in cases where diplomacy has been without result.
