UNSEAWORTHY BOATS
CHECK ON FOOLHARDINESS (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The question of supervision of small boats in coastal waters is seriously exercising the mind of the Minister of Marine, the Hon. G. J. Anderson, in view of the fact that several small craft, with their crews, have been lost at sea lately, and the Marine Department has been put to considerable expense in searching for them. In reply to a question by Mr. P:. McKeen, Wellington South, in the House of Representatives this afternoon, the Minister said that the department had no jurisdiction over private boats and fishing boats of under 10 tons, but it was a question as to whether something should not be done to prevent foolhardy people going out in unseaworthy boats with unreliable engines. The department was seriously considering the question of control.
