FROM SYDNEY. —The Union Company advises that the passenger steamer Maheno sailed from Sydney shortly after noon yesterday for Wellington. bhe is due at the Southern port next Tuesday morning and leaves at 11 a.m. the foMoving Friday on her return trip to S>dne>. WESTMORELAND COMPLETING. — \.t present completing her loading at Auckland, the New Zealand Shipping Company hopes to dispatch the Federal steamer Westmoreland from here at daybreak next Tuesday for London, via Panama. FRISCO STEAMERS. —The Union Company advises that the R.M.S. Makura is due at Wellington on Monday morning from Sydney and sails at 3 p.m. cn Tuesday for San Francisco via Rarotonga and Papeete. The R.M.S. Tahiti, which left San Francisco last Wednesday, via ports is due at Wellington on October 24 and at Sydney on October 29. MATAROA LOADING. Now at Lyttelton, loading, the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Mataroa leaves on Tuesday for New Plymouth, thence Wellington, Napier and Auckland to complete. She is due here on October 24 and is to clear this port finally at daybreak on ’October 29 for Southampton and London, via Panama. A. S. Paterson and Co. will be the local agents. ORIENT LINE STEAM ERS.—The Union Company, agents for the Orient Line, advises the following movements of their steamers: — The Orvieto, from London, is due at Melbourne on October 10, and at Sydney on October 13. TOFU A SAILS. —The Union Company’s Island passenger steamer left Auckland shortly after eleven o’clock this morning with passengers, mail, and cargo for Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa. MANUKA .LEAVES MELBOURNE.— Cabled advice has been received by the Union Company that the Manuka left Melbourne at 10 p.m. on Wednesday for Bluff. She is due there on Sunday night. She will leave Bluff on Mondav, Dunedin on Wednesday, and Lyttelton on Friday for Wellington. She is due at Wellington on Saturday, and is timed to leave there at 3 p.m. on October 17, for Melbourne direct. CARGO FROM EAST CANADA.— Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Gisla arrived at Sydney (Cape Breton) on Tuesday, and is to proceed thence to Montreal to complete loading for New Zealand ports. She is to sail from Montreal on October 22 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne and Sydney. THE PORT GISBORNE.—The C. and D. Line’s new motor-ship Port Gisborne, which arrived at Lyttelton at 9.30 a.m. on Thursday from Wellington, to continue discharge of her London cargo, will leave Lyttelton to-day for Nelson, to put out the remainder. The Port Gisborne is expected to sail from Nelson about Wednesday for Australia, to load.

RIBERA FROM MONTREAL.—Arriving at Auckland shortly after ten o’clock this morning with a cargo of general merchandise from Eastern Canadiu ports, the Bolton Steam Shipping Company’s steamer Ribera berthed at noon at Queen's Wharf to commence d.scharge. The vessel left Montreal on August 24 and called at Sj'dney (Cape Breton) to take on a quantity of steel foods. She reached Newport Nevs on eptember 1 and after bunkering then sailed again next day. Fine weather prevailed for the first part of the voyage and the steamer reached Colon on September 11. Transit through the canal vas granted and the Ribera cleared Balboa the next mornir.g. Coming across the Pacific variable winds were experience! with moderate seas prevailing most of the time. About a week ago a cold southerly breeze commenced to blow and lasted for several days The remainder of the voyage was completed at a good speed and the vessel arrived in port »eve*il hours ahead of schedule. Captain G. L. Wether ill is in command of the Ribera and associated with him are the following officers: Chief, Mr. D. Simpson: second, Mr. C. R. Simmom. third, Mr. M.
