JUMPER JOINS THE TROTTERS
A WILD CAREER When the high jumper Robin stumbled and dislodged his rider in the Ladies’ High Jump at Sydney one day last week he broke away. Seeing six trotters fighting out a heat of the Unhoppled Handicap, the jumper decided to join in, and in next to no time he was mixed up with the trotters, and the onlookers held their breath as a bad smash seemed imminent.
Several times Robin bored in on the trotters, and as he did so the drivers
beat him off with their whips, only to see him swing away towards another competitor.
At last one of the drivers caught the intruder a mighty w'allop on the hindquarters, and he swung out from the field, kicking his heels dangerously among the heads of the other horses and their drivers.
Robin was still competing with the trotters when the race finished, although lie was a. long way behind, but still going strong. The drivers lost no time in getting their charges away off the track, out of his way.
Then the horse turned into the centre of the ring, and was making straight for the officials, w r ho commenced to scatter, but, after propping, he was turned back and then made straight for the exit.
Although the gates were only a couple of feet apart, he jumped through before the gate could be closed against him, and his wild career ended.
