Final Match in 1927 Hockey
BATTLE FOR KENT CUP
VARSITY V SOMERVILLE The hockey season in Auckland will close officially to-morrow afternoon when Somerville, winner of the club championships, will meet Varsity, run-ner-up, for the Kent Cup. The match, which will be played at 3 o’clock on No. 1 ground, promises to be a great battle and evenly contested throughout. . Since the rivals drew in the Devon - port Shield final changes in the personnel of the teams have been made. Hamilton will replace Eddie Burton at centre forward for Varsity and H. Roberts, Somerville’s fine fullback, will take his place in the last line of defence after some weeks’ illness. G. Cole, the halfback, who toured Australia recently, will play left half to-morrow and his stick should strengthen the defence and make opportunities for the forwards. Varsity is fairly confident of success but a careful review of form of the rival sides would indicate a victory for the Whites, by a small margin. Still, a game is never won until it’s over, and if Varsity’s half line can rise to the occasion this time, and Greenbank remembers that his place is right wing and not centre-forward, the Blues will have a chance to win. GIRLS’ HOCKEY Arawa and Mount Eden will meet at 3 o’clock in the final of the girls’ senior knock-out competition. If the ground is dry a fast and exciting encounter should be witnessed. The following are the teams: Senior Grade Somerville.—B. Cooper, IT. Roberts, W. Gardner, E. Rogers, N. Haggett, G. Cole, H. Watts, A. Seceombe, E. Watts, G. Watts, A. Rogers. Emei'gencies: R. Munro, S. Hunter. University.—Linton, Brown, Hume, Dr. Leonard, Radcliffe, Barrett, Greenbank, Seelen, Hamilton, Miller, Seelen.
