FORGOT HIS TREASURE
OLD MAN’S £9B IN TIN CAN A strange story of an old man’s buried and forgotten hoard was told in Dumbarton Police Court, when a petition was presented to have the sum of £9B 10s paid over to Henry Ballantyne. It was said that Ballantyne s son. in February last, was digging in the garden at the rear of his house when lie unearthed a tin can containing this sum in notes. He reported his find to the Chief Constable, and it was discovered that the father of the finder had resided at this address for 30 years. His memory failed and he forgot all about the money he had buried until reminded by the wide publicity given at the time of the find. It. was decided that the money should be paid over to the claimant, less 10 per cent., the cost of the petition, and a reward of 10 per cent, to the son who found the money.
