COUNCIL’S REQUEST TO LET SHOPS
FAR-REACHING QUESTION Press Association. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A deputation representing the Palmerston North Borough Council today asked Sir Maui Pomare, ActingMinister of Internal Affairs, to seek legislation to enable the council to erect shops for letting purposes in connection with the library. The Minister said he was afraid the matter would be viewed as contentious by the House of Representatives It was a very far-reaching question and it was difficult to see where the line could be drawn. The council’s scheme should be placed before the Municipal Conference so that a general policy for the whole Dominion could be laid down.
