MINING NEWS 6HINEMURI. —The assay certificate from the Waihi School of Mines of the sample* taken from the Camoola reef on on the Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines’ property reads as follows, according to advice received from the company’s office: “Gold, loz ldwt 4gr per ton; silver, 308 oz 6dwt per ton; value, £3B 13s 3d per ton.” The manager reports that neither wall is showing in the face from where the sample was taken. WAIPAHI FOR FIJI ISLAND FRUIT TRADE CARGO FOR CHRISTMAS The local office of the Union Company advises that the Island fruit steamer, Waipahi, which is due next Wednesday from the Cook Islands, is to be dispatched again two days later on her last trip to Rarotonga this season. After returning she is to be diverted to the Fijian trade, to make further trips there in conjunction with the TofuaThe Waipahi is expected to arrive at Auckland on her second trip from Fiji about a week before Christmas, and her cargo should carry consumers over the holidays. The Waipahi is practically a new vessel, and is one of the latest additions to the company’s fleet of cargo steamers. After she reached New Zealand the company went to considerable expense in converting her into an oil burner, and in fitting her out specially for the Cook Island fruit trade. She has very roomy holds in which a number of large electric fans have been installed to ensure plenty of ventilation for the fruit.
