SAVED BY SIRENS
PIG-HUNTERS’ ORDEAL LOST FOR TWO DAYS (Special to THE SUN.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. Lost in the rough country beyond the Stratford Main Trunk railhead, a resident of Tangarakau and his son spent two days in the open before being found by a search party. The two went pig-shooting on Saturday, and when they did not return on Monday considerable alarm was felt. To guide the lost men every whistle and siren at the railway works was set going and kept in action. Considerably exhausted, but otherwise unharmed, the men were found beyond the last railway camp late on Monday. The sound of the whistles had enabled them to get their bearings and find their way back toward the railway line.
