RELIEF WORKS

AVONDALE PREPARES Several thousand pounds of loan money raised some years ago are to be expended on the relief of unemployment at Avondale. The decision is a sequel to a recent visit to the district of the Works Committee of the City Council and the engineer, Mr. W. E. Bush- Operations will commence in the centre of the township and be pushed toward Manukau and New Windsor Roads. The question as to whether a strip of permanent road will be constructed in the centre, or whether tw T o strips, one on eaeh side, will be laid down on Manukau Road cannot be settled definitely until the probability of trams being extended to Blockhouse Bay has been considered.
