THAMES HOCKEY
JOHNSTONE CUP FINAL THAMES GIRLS’ WIN The final for the Johnstone Cup was played at Thames on Saturday between Thames and Wailii Girls’ Clubs, and resulted in a win for the home team by four goals to nil. Both teams were at full strength and a splendid exhibition was given, the game being packed with interest from start to finish.
The Thames girls had better control of the ball and were quick to grasp every goal-scoring opportunity, whereas Waihi’s good mid-field play was negatived by slack play in front of their opponents’ goal. * Taking the play all through Thames was the better team, but not to the extent of four goals. The best player on the field was Miss P. Boyle, of Thames, with Miss Hedley giving her good support. For Waihi Miss Carter and Miss Weedon were the outstanding players.
