AMBITIOUS FORGER
WANTED TO ESTABLISH CREDIT QUARRY MANAGER ROBBED /\ FTER Joseph McGovern, aged 45, stole his employers’ cheque book at Putaruru last month he came to Auckland and tried his luck with bad cheques. He succeeded for a time, but at the Police Court to-day he pleaded guilty to eight charges of forgery, seven of uttering, and three of theft. Two of the theft charges related to watches stolen from fellow-workers. Accused was employed at Putaruru by William Flanagan, a quarry manager.. One of the cheques he issued was for £655 for a stone-crusher. The purpose of this one was to establish his credit. He was sent to the Supreme Court for sentence.
