FICKLE STREET LAMPS

BIRKENHEAD COMPLAINS POWER BOARD’S REQUEST Birkenhead residents have, they claim, a too fickle street-lighting service. A LETTER was received by the Waltemata Power Board from the borough council complaining of the frequency of lamp failure. Bureau fees, stated the letter, deterred residents from notifying the board by telephone. They usually reported the default only after the light had been out for some days. Mr. F. J. H. Wilson, acting engineermanager, suggested that residents should be interested enough to inform their town clerks immediately. The board decided to write to the town clerks on the North Shore to get their co-operation and that of the residents.
