MANUKAU WINS THE 1927 POLLARD CUP
TECHNICAL OLD BOYS FAIL Manukau won the Pollard Cup for 1927 by beating Technical Old Bovs on the Showgrounds on Saturday in a fast and hard game, which ended with the scores 12 to 6. There was not a great deal between the teams, but Manukau has some shining individuals, who throughout the season, as; on Saturday, by strokes of inspiration, ‘have won game after game in a brilliant fashion, which endears them to an army of Maori camp followers. Among these players must be mentioned men like Rata and Ingram, Kahu and Sturmey and Omaha nga, once “te Pioneers' ” spectacular fullback. He, however, did not turn out on Saturday. It is not discrediting other senior B teams—City included—to say that Manukau, at least, on some of its games this year, would win matches in the senior grade. Yet on Saturday it did not reproduce the Rugby which it played against Varsity a few weeks ago., and by which it trounced the students by a fairly considerable margin.
