Mr. Hockly’s Chance Banter in the House (THE SUN’S Parliament ary Reporter.) WELLINGTON. Friday. The Prime Minister was reminded in the House of Representatives this evening that the time will arrive shortly when he will have to choose
from the ranks of his party another lieutenant to assist him in Ministerial administration. The occasion arose as a result of the speech of Mr. F. F. Hockly, chairman of committee, whose chance of elevation to Ministerial position is bright, and who asked the Prime Minister for an assurance that under daylight saving the primary producers’ interest would be placed first, and the rest of New Zealand second. Mr. H. E. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, suggested that Mr. Hockly wanted to throw a brick at the Government. Mr. W. ID. Lysnar: We will leave the railways as they are. What about your Grey miners? Mr. Holland: I can arrange that all right, without altering the time-table. I suggest that to get over the difficulty, the member for Rotorua should be made Minister of Railways. Mr. Coates: He would make a good Minister, too. Mr. Holland: I believe he would, and this seems to be an easy way out of the difficulty. Mr. Coates: It is very friendly advice, but it comes from the wrong quarter. Mr. Holland: Well, I am sorry, because I would not like to prejudice the chances of the member for Rotorua while I am trying to do service to the country.
