MARRIED COUPLE WHO CANNOT CONVERSE

BRITISH SOLDIER AND HIS ARMENIAN WIFE AFTER FOUR YEARS An English soldier's romantic marniigs in Constantinople to an Armenian woman, neither of whom couhl understand the language of the other, and after four years were still unable to converse, was recently described to the Farnham Guardians, England by their clerk. Mr. A. G. Coomber. When the woman met her present husband in Constantinople, said Mr. Coomber, she was married to an Armenian, but there was a divorce. Afterwards she came to England and married the English soldier. The language difficulty had led to much misunderstanding, and had prevented the woman from keeping her lodgings. She was now in the Farnham infirmary, but there was no reason for detaining her, and she resisted being confined and deprived of her child, which had been placed by the husband in a Bournemouth home. The woman had been disowned by her family in Constantinople, and was now legally an Englishwoman. It was suggested that her condition might be improved if she could be placed with Armenian-speaking people.
