VICTORIAN EFFECT IN SKIRTS

RIBBON THREADING IN SILKEN SLIPS The "little girl" aspect is conspicuous about the between season evening ; frocks. The skirts are threaded with wide satin ribbons in a way most reminiscent of baby clothes. Large eyelet-holes are worked in i regular intervals all round the skirt. 1 starting just a little way below the bodice, and through these the ribbon is I threaded and tied in a demure bow at j the side. There are usually three rows, and the ribbon gets wider as it nears ! the hem. A small bow is also placed I on the left shoulder. It gives a quaint Victorian aspect j that is decidedly attractive. A wellknown young girl wearing such a frock ; the other night curled her growing hair i in ringlets each side of her face to en- j ha nee the genera l effect. Even more "feminine" are the tulle I and net evening dresses that veil under- I slips threaded with ribbon. These slips j are of more substantial materials than ! formerly—crepe de chine instead of chiffon, and glistening moire ribbon is i threaded through them. An especially . lovely example of this was a frock of i gold net shrouding a gold silk slip threaded with grey-green taffeta ribbon. The slip was so essential to the frock that it might almost be called the oldfashioned. name of petticoat.
